Housing Starts Jump 5%

Home builder confidence may have dropped, but that hasn’t slowed housing starts or building permits

BUILDING PERMITS for privately-owned housing units in December were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,709,000

  • M-O-M: This was 4.5% above the revised November rate of 1,635,000
  • Y-O-Y: This was 17.3% above the December 2019 rate of 1,457,000

SINGLE-FAMILY: Saw the biggest year-over-year growth jumping 30% when compared to December 2019

PRIVATELY-OWNED HOUSING STARTS in December were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,669,000

  • M-O-M: This is 5.8% above the revised November estimate of 1,578,000
  • Y-O-Y: This is 5.2% above the December 2019 rate of 1,587,000

SINGLE-FAMILY: Saw the biggest year-over-year growth jumping 27.8% when compared to December 2019
