Crazy day in Washington D.C. yesterday as hundreds of pro-Trump rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol building Wednesday as Congress met to certify electoral college votes for President-elect Joe Biden, (Washington Post) Twitter and Facebook locked President Donald Trump’s accounts after the siege on the Capitol (Politico), and to end to the day Congress was able to reconvene and affirm Biden’s presidential win (Washington Post)
Global markets and U.S. stock futures rose this morning as investors looked past the political unrest to focus instead on prospects for higher government spending. Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.6%, suggesting the index of blue-chip stocks will extend a rally that pushed it to a record closing high Wednesday (Wall Street Journal)
